Create a Custom Placeholder Image

Create a placeholder PNG with exact dimensions and colors.

Set image

How to use it

Create a simple placeholder PNG from exact width, height, background color, text color and a center label. It is useful when layout work needs to continue before the final image asset exists.

  1. Set width and height to at least 16 px.
  2. Choose background/text colors and enter a short label.
  3. Create the PNG and place it in the real layout to verify space and aspect ratio.
Minimum
16 px for both width and height
Maximum
width × height up to 30 megapixels
Blank label
uses “width × height” automatically
Output
PNG

Create a 1200 × 630 placeholder for an OG image slot

Set width 1200, height 630 and a label such as 1200 × 630 to check the card or social-preview space before the final design is ready.

This makes a simple dummy image, not a photo-like or generative design. Long labels can become hard to read, so use short identifiers such as dimensions, Hero or Thumbnail.

Keep layout work moving before artwork is ready

Developers and designers can confirm aspect ratio, responsive behavior and occupied space without waiting for the final asset.

Different colors help distinguish several slots

Use separate background colors for hero, card and thumbnail placeholders so a prototype makes each image role obvious.

The label is a single centered line

This is not a diagram or annotation tool. Short labels work better than paragraphs or multi-line instructions.

Very large canvases are limited

The 30-megapixel cap avoids excessive browser load. Extremely large print-production placeholders should be created in a dedicated graphics application.

Make placeholders easy to spot before launch

Use obvious labels or filenames so a dummy asset is not accidentally left in the production site or final document.
