Calculate resized dimensions while preserving aspect ratio.

Use tool

How to use it

Calculate the proportional target height and scale percentage from original image dimensions and a target width. No image file is modified.

  1. Enter original width and height in pixels.
  2. Enter the target width.
  3. Select Calculate to see target dimensions and scale percentage.
Target height
target width × original height ÷ original width, rounded
Displayed width
Target width rounded to a whole pixel
Scale
target width ÷ original width × 100
Input
All dimensions must be positive

4000×3000 resized to width 1600 becomes 1600×1200

The width scale is 40%. Proportional height is 1600 × 3000 ÷ 4000 = 1200 px.

This page only calculates dimensions. Use the Image resizer tool when you need to create a resized image file.

The original aspect ratio is preserved

Only target width is supplied; height is derived proportionally so the result is not stretched.

Below 100% means reduction

A 40% width scale makes each dimension 0.4×; total pixel area becomes about 0.16×.

Pixel dimensions are rounded to whole numbers

When the proportional height is fractional, it is rounded to the nearest integer pixel.

Zero or negative dimensions are invalid

A proportional resize needs positive source and target dimensions, so invalid values are rejected.
