Convention profit calculator

Calculate convention/event profit and margin.

Use tool

How to use it

Subtract product cost and other event expenses from revenue to see profit, profit margin and total cost in one place. It is a simple event or merchandise result check rather than a full accounting statement.

  1. Enter revenue.
  2. Enter cost of goods and other expenses such as participation, travel or accommodation.
  3. Calculate and review profit, margin and total cost.
Profit
revenue − cost of goods − other expenses
Profit margin
profit ÷ revenue × 100
Total cost
cost of goods + other expenses
Revenue 0
margin is shown as unavailable

80,000 revenue minus 20,000 cost and 25,000 expenses leaves 35,000

80,000 − 20,000 − 25,000 = 35,000. The profit margin on revenue is 43.75%, and total cost is 45,000.

The calculator uses only the three entered amounts. It does not automatically handle tax, depreciation, inventory valuation or other accounting treatment.

Margin answers how much of revenue remained

Two events can have the same absolute profit but different margins if their revenue levels are different.

Separating product cost from other expenses helps diagnosis

Manufacturing cost behaves differently from booth fees, travel and lodging. Keeping them separate makes it easier to see which part of the event consumed the budget.

Negative profit is shown as a loss

A negative result is not hidden or forced to zero. Use it as a starting point for deciding whether price, product cost or event expenses need review.

Profit margin is undefined when revenue is zero

Profit and total cost can still be displayed, but dividing by zero does not produce a meaningful percentage, so the margin is shown as unavailable.

Compare events using consistent cost definitions

If one event includes travel and another does not, the margins are not directly comparable. Decide which expenses belong in the model before comparing results.
